Visiting Seattle soon? Know more about this city

Seattle happens to be the largest city of Washington and as a matter of fact the largest in the whole of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. This city that was instituted in the year 1851 was named in honor of Chief Seattle – A former leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribes of native America. The official nickname chosen for Seattle was ‘Emerald City’ with reverence to the areas evergreen trees. The city is also referred to by many other popular nicknames namely ‘Queen City’, ‘Jet City’ and ‘gateway to Alaska’.

You will be quite surprised to believe that this city actually seemed to be dying away 40 years ago; it was a city that was almost written off. In the last forty odd years, Seattle has emerged as the most enticing that United States has to offer to both visitors and local residents.

The city of Seattle offers some great spots of attraction to its visitors. Seattle’s famous attractions include the Northwest Seaport, Frye Art Museum, Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium, Ye Olde Curiosity Shop, Woodland Park Zoo etc.

Now coming to some facts about the region – Seattle houses the headquarters of some major companies namely ‘Amazon.com’, ‘Nordstrom’, ‘Cray Inc’, ‘Washington Mutual’ and ‘Starbucks Corporation’. Besides, Seattle is the home for many professional sports franchises such as the Seattle Mariners, the baseball team, Seattle Sounders, Seattle Supersonics, Seattle Seahawks, the basketball team, USL-1 soccer team and the NFL American football team.

The University of Washington is one of the most popular educational institutions Seattle has to offer students. Some of Seattle’s fine dining restaurants include Belltown, Pike Place neighborhood, Pike Place Chowder – That is popular for its exotic seafood soups, Metropolitan Grill – A place that is known for great steaks, Waterfront Seafood Grill –This place offering mouth-watering yet inexpensive seafood options.
