This city that was instituted in the year 1851 was named in honor of Chief Seattle – A former leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribes of native America. The official nickname chosen for Seattle was ‘Emerald City’ with reverence to the areas evergreen trees. The city is also referred to by many other popular nicknames namely ‘Queen City’, ‘Jet City’ and ‘gateway to Alaska’.
